Spam hate

As you will see in the comments of the previous post we now have virulent spamming in the blogosphere as well. My friend shoefiend alerted me to this with her wonderful post on spas getting spammed with junk about hair oil.

Any ideas on how to get rid of these guys or do I just delete their comments and pray they stop on their own???

  1. i don't know there is a way to curtail it. if you disable anonymous comments, some of the spam might stop.

  2. Yeah, you can get rid of it. In your Blogger setup, look under the Comments tab, and check the option for Show Word Verification for Comments. Commenting will still be easy for your readers; all they'll have to do is type the verification word they see into the blank provided.

    You're welcome!

  16. Verification seems a solution but might deter people from posting comments on your blog. Damn.

  17. I don't want to disallow anonymous comments - I get so few anyway. As for verification, I guess those who want to comment will just have to go thru the process of tying out 5 more alphabets to post till they find another solution to rid us of spammers.....
